The Viola Russ McBride Scholarship is awarded by the trustees of the Viola McBride Educational Trust (VMET). The recipient(s) are chosen from two areas dear to Viola’s heart, agriculture and the arts. The scholarships are one-time awards of $2,500 each, for college or trade school training.

Ideal Applicant

• Ferndale Union High School Senior, or home schooled and residing in the Ferndale/Bear River/Mattole Valley area
• Demonstrates a passionate interest in agriculture or the fine arts through:
  • Course study in the arts or ag-related courses
  • Active participation in related organizations such as 4-H, FFA, internship with the theater, etc.
  • Will major in a field directly related to agriculture or the arts.
  • Will ask their school administration to forward a copy of their transcripts to Admin@ViolaMcBride.com  (a sealed copy is not necessary if sent by a school administrator.)
  • Will complete an essay describing their educational goals and how they have prepared to reach those goals (hobbies, organization affiliations, extra-curricular activities, influential entities and people, personal challenges, etc.)
  • Will have three letters of recommendation. One letter from each of the following:
    • school staff member
    • supervisor of an organization that you were involved in
    • community member of your choice (adult)

     

Application Process

1. Fill out the form (click link below) and submit.
2. Email Letters of Recommendation, and Essay (unless using the form essay box).
3. Ask schools staff (i.e. Mrs. Toste) to email your transcripts.

Applications need to be submitted by May 15

Please email your letters of recommendation in a digital format (MS Word, PDF, etc.) . Links to required documents already online elsewhere are also acceptable (as long as we can access them). Make sure your name is in the email or attached documents.

Please have your transcripts emailed by official school staff. They do not need to be sealed this way.

Your essay can be emailed, or linked, or you may use the essay box of the online application form.
